Burton Bag

 

Most people that know me and or follow this blog know that I love everything

Tim Burton does. In my mind hes a genius and if I could live in any fictional world I would choose one of his. Of course there is no way anyone can copy his style but I thought I would give it a go and make a Burton like bag. Mostly it is the colour combo reminds me of his art. Im making a couple more in this shape but in more fall like colour and they should be on Etsy in the beginning of September.

At The Fair

 

Yesterday I went to the PNE with my mom and my niece and nephew. Normally I would stay far away from a place like that because of the crowds. My mom was going to go with the kids by herself so she asked if I could come and help. It ended up being tons of fun mostly because the kids were so excited about going. We first went to the 4-H barn to see all the animals which was great because there were loads of baby duck, chicks, piglets and pony's.

   

Then we brought the kids over to the the Playland part and they went on a bunch of rides. They are still pretty young so we stayed in the little kids area which has the not so scary rides. I always have interesting people walk up to me and start conversations and I had a few of those at the fair. The best was when out of the blue a young boy in his mid teens came up to me with a microphone and asked me what my favourite part of the PNE is. Im not so good with people I get really shy so I looked at him then over to the camera and started laughing nervously and Im sure went many shades of red and giggled some more. Im pretty sure I told him the rides were the best part which isn't true its the food that is the best part.

 
  

After that little embarrassment we went and watch a truck rally thing which was ok and then the logger competition which was really badly acted. Then we went and saw the Superdogs which was rather entertaining and now I want a dog again. If you live in the Vancouver area I recommend to go on a weekday morning before the huge crowds.

I inherited this picture from my grandma it was in her living room for years then it was at her care facility and now its in my living room. I was having a hard time finding a picture for that wall and it had been mocking me with its empty wall but now it looks great. Everytime I look at it I am reminded of going and visiting her and the fun times we had.

Grandma Lucy

 
If you follow me on twitter or facebook then you would have heard about my grandma dying on the 6th of this month. That is why I have been off the internet for quite awhile. Even though she was 94 years old it was still a huge shock since she has been one of the strongest women I have ever know. My wonderful job gave me the day off when I found out she was doing badly. I was happy that I could spend the day with my mom and family and that I could help out so my mom wouldnt have to stress about little things.

She was one of the strongest women I have known and one of the funniest she had a really dry wit that I just loved. She lived over on Vancouver Island and growing up we would go and visit every August. I am not a huge fan of hot weather but for some reason I always have loved August. It wasent until we started reminiscing about visiting grandma and grandpa that I realized it was because of our visits that I liked August so much. When we would go over and visit we had to take a ferry to the island then drive for about 2 hours and we would always get there about lunch time. When we pulled up we went straight in for lunch and she would have fresh buns and tomatoes from her garden with cheese and ham and we would make sandwiches. That still is my favourite type of lunch to have in the hot weather. Everytime we would go visit we would go to a local farm that had a little market and we would make pickles or can tomatoes or peaches. We would have an assembly line in her turquoise 1950s style kitchen and can food and laugh. She also always had the best garden it was unbelievable how big everything would grow. There was also no lazing around at grandmas we were always going and doing things or working on projects around the house and it was tons of fun.

After my grandpa died she lived in their house for a couple of years then she started needing help so she came over and lived with us. 10 years ago she had to move into a care facility which she wasent to happy about...but really I don't think anyone is to happy about that. It was a really nice place and it was very close to my mom so she could go up almost everyday and visit. It hit me pretty hard losing her so I thought I would take a few days off from blogging and other internet things. I even took sometime off from sewing but I am back and Im working on my fall bags which I will have photos of pretty soon.

Busy Bee

 
On my two days off of work I did a great many things. Me and my husband went and saw Inception which is one of my new favorite movies wow it was good. I went shopping the other day at fabric land in the remnant bins and I found a whole bunch of pretty fabric. I also got the new Sense and Sensibility comics they are really good.

 
Then today I went with my sister-in-law to Gentille Alouettes to give her some more of my bags. Shes such a sweetie I love going there because she tells me things up front. I have been struggling with how much to charge for my things and also the length it takes to make them is pretty long. I have been stubborn about using a sewing machine because I enjoy making things by hand. My husband has been telling me that I need to make more thing with my sewing machine because it wont take as long and I might make some money. I agreed with him but for some reason when she said the same things it made more sense. Very odd how my mind works...anywho I am going to use the dreaded sewing machine but only for things that you dont see like the liners and such.

Gimme Gimme: A Picnic

  Better late then never I always say hehe. I have had a very long week of work and I finally have two days off so I am pretty ehausted hence the lateness of this post. Our computer is on the fritz also so I am at my in-laws again using there computer.

I am hosting a family picnic this month and I have been searching for ideas on what to do in the way of decorating. Here is what I have come up with for my dream picnic...enjoy!
